It's about creating a life you don't want to escape from.
Let's break this down
Hi, Society is a research-backed mental fitness program for people who are seeking to unbreak their brains. Using the latest cognitive science research and therapeutic reading and writing techniques, we offer a practical approach to rewire your brain and break your phone addiction in less time that it takes to attend a single college class (12 weeks)—so you can actually focus on what matters.

It's Lovely To Meet You
We are James and Angela Crowell (rhymes with soul), two writers turned researchers of cognitive science.
At Hi, Society, we're not here to tell you that the internet is evil or that the only way to fix your dopamine is by living in a desert where your only form of communication is carrier pigeon.
That would be insane.
Because while other productivity experts want to just tell you what's wrong (with you, with technology, with your life) we want to show you what's actually right. The people who graduate this program leave with more than just a list of best practices or an awareness of the cognitive science behind goal-setting, focus, and productivity—they leave with an understanding of how their mind works and how to keep it working for them.
And because we believe in a whole-person approach, this is not a just pre-recorded set of classes.
We walk with you every step of the way.
Ready for it?

Questions That Come Up
FAQ #1
How do I know this
will work?
It sounds good, but I've tried things like this before and they never seem to work or cause lasting change. I always revert back to my old habits when life gets hard.
That is why
we built this program with lifestyle in mind. This is not a digital detox or a list of best practices – it is a step-by-step glow-up of your daily habits with live feedback, designed to resist overwhelm and rewire your brain so that reversion is less natural to you than forward motion.
It's not about
just having the best new productivity app or social media blocker. It is about breaking old habits and building new ones, which is why all the tools in the world won't get you there alone. We walk you through daily challenges and give you live feedback, so that your goals match your life.
We get it
because, as working parents of a full-time toddler, we know how hard it is to pencil in anything extra. But we designed this program for busy people--because we figured that if you're here, you're already busy.
The program has
a combination of main goals, daily micro-challenges, and weekly check-ins so it is always clear what you are doing next and how it furthers progress towards your goals. Not to mention the personalized
schedule design services that we wrap into Week 1, so that each and every client has a specific protocol.
FAQ #2
Can I do this as a working adult and/or parent?
I already have enough daily responsibilities that need my time and attention. This will just mean more things to do and less time.
We know that
everyone has gone down the rabbit hole of trying to build the best morning routine or discover exactly what cortisol is--because we have too. But, with this program, we wanted to provide what we always needed: not information alone, but a structure that to solidify the new way of living.
FAQ #3
Why is it 12 weeks?
I would like to be a part of this program, but I don't see why it has to be so long. I could see myself joining if it was just a few weeks or a 30-day detox.
It was a choice
to make this program 12 weeks long. Because it takes a little time for the human brain to form the new neural pathways that you need in place to replace old habits with new ones, and we don't like to
rush it when it is fighting for our
success.
FAQ #4
What if I am honestly NOT addicted to my phone?
Sure, I may get distracted at times, but I don't spend hours scrolling at night or when I wake up in the morning.
Your phone
is an ever-present distraction, even putting addiction aside. You may not even know the effects that being continually on call is having on your cognitive load, which is why we focus on symptoms like mental clutter, brain fog, low attention span, and stress before looking for a digital root cause.
Whether it is
social media posts, emails, texts, Slack messages, app notifications or emergency alerts, we are always in communication. And frankly it's too much for us to handle. It takes method and intentionality to survive the cognitive demands of modern life and reverse the negative side effects of too much information.
FAQ #5
Can't I just Google this information?
I can find neuroscience videos online for free, not to mention all the information I can find with ChatGPT.
Why should I pay for a program?
Honestly?
Sure, you could Google how to improve your mind. But you couldn't parse through hundreds of pages of research material, read all the latest cognitive science on the subject, identify the most critical information for you and the best applications of it, separate the fake science from the real science, figure out how to create structured roadmap that is comprehensive without being overwhelming, record yourself daily videos, give yourself periodic mind-building challenges, convince like-minded people to do it all with you, and create new habits and friendships that last a lifetime.
Well, maybe you could. But why do months of work when we already have?
